In general, an abdominoplasty is a type of plastic surgery that deals with the removal of excess skin and fat on the abdominal area. Weight loss and childbirth are the common culprits for excess skin and fat along the abdomen, and correcting them with abdominoplasty can improve the patient's appearance.
Tummy Tuck or Regular Abdominoplasty - This type of abdominoplasty procedure requires incisions along the length of the hipbones. The skin along the abdominal wall up to the rib area is removed.
The abdomen's vertical muscles are tightened, and the excess fats are removed. The skin is then pulled down and trimmed, and the remaining skin is sewn along the initial incision.
Mini Tummy Tuck or Mini Abdominoplasty - This abdominoplasty procedure is a limited version of the regular abdominoplasty. It is usually done in conjunction with a tumescent liposuction.
The surgery itself involves less or smaller incisions on the abdominal area. Recovery time is also shorter for this type of abdominoplasty procedure. This procedure is advisable for patients with lesser abdominal fat problems, and with lost skin elasticity and muscle tone on the lower abdominal region (below the navel).
Endoscopic Tummy Tuck or Endoscopic Abdominoplasty - This procedure involves the use of an endoscope- a tiny camera used in some of the latest surgical procedures.
Endoscopic abdominoplasty involves tightening of the abdominal muscles and fat removal using liposuction with holes above the pubis or via the navel.
This procedure is advisable for patients with excess fats below the navel but with skin elasticity in tact. It is a popular procedure because it has less scarring. However, the risk of infection is higher especially when incisions are not drained properly.
