Breast Implants

Breast implants are widely used for breast augmentation procedures all around the world. The approval of the materials used for breast implants have given edge and possibilities to the ever growing interest of enhancing and enlarging the female breasts.

In plastic surgery, anything is possible but with within reason and limits. A flat-chested woman can now improve her appearance and breast size with breast implants. The physique and the overall health condition of the woman will always be taken into consideration before the actual procedure.

Breast implants are usually made of silicone and saline. The bag or pouch is usually made of silicone and it is filled with saline solution once inside the breast. The FDA first approved of the saline implant since it poses no known threats to the health of females. However, with silicone implants, there are still some health issues being debated. The FDA ruled that only women above 21 years are allowed to have silicone implants.

What happens during breast augmentation?

Small incisions are made on the woman's areola, along the dark line. The pouch is inserted on the incision before it is filled with saline solution. The pouch can also be inserted underneath the armpit to conceal the incision.

Breast implant procedure usually takes minutes to an hour and the patient can go home after resting. There may be some pain and a bit of swelling after the breast implants have been placed.

A special bra is required to help the breast implants adjust in their new environment and for the woman to feel more comfortable with her new breasts. Prescription pain killers are also given to ease the pain after the procedure.

Breast implants do not come cheap. They usually cost thousands of dollars and health insurance companies do not usually cover them.

Talk to your plastic surgeon about the pros and cons of breast implants, as well as payment options. Nowadays there are discounted packages for certain types of plastic surgery procedures and breast implants could be one the offers available in your doctor's clinic.
