A neck lift surgery is designed to improve the appearance of the neck by removing the sagging or loose skin in the neck area and beneath the jaw line.
The procedure usually lasts for 2 hours and the patient is operated under general anesthesia. After the surgery, the patient is required to stay overnight in the hospital.
Recovery period
A patient will feel tired a few days after the surgery. There may be some swelling and bruising of the operated area. Discomfort and pain can also be experienced but can be relieved by taking prescription pain killers.
A patient may stand, walk and can only do light activities within the first few days. Strenuous activities are not recommended within the first month after surgery.
A light dressing on the neck and jaw line should be kept dry for 2 weeks. The dressing will be removed after 2 weeks. The incisions are cleaned and inspected.
Scars are usually pinkish and firm for a period of 6 weeks to a few months. Scars from a neck lift usually takes 2 years to fade.
Follow-up check ups are required so that the plastic surgeon can check the patient's progress.
